ICI College, in partnership with Barangay Poblacion, began a hands-on Livelihood Training Program on May 5 at the ICI College Kitchen. The first day focused on Processed Food Making, where solo parent participants learned practical skills that can help them start small businesses or create additional sources of income.
The training is organized by the college’s CTHM (Tourism and Hospitality Management), HRRO (Hotel, Restaurant and Resort Operations), and ENTREP (Entrepreneurship) departments. The program aims to provide hands-on learning experiences related to food production while introducing participants to potential small business opportunities.
During the first day, participants were guided through the process of preparing and producing different types of processed food products. Instructors demonstrated proper preparation techniques, ingredient handling, and basic food production methods commonly used in small-scale food businesses. Participants were then able to practice these processes themselves, allowing them to gain practical experience that can be applied outside the training environment.
The activity is part of the institution’s commitment to community engagement and skills development. By providing accessible training programs, the college hopes to empower individuals in the community, particularly solo parents, by equipping them with knowledge that can be transformed into livelihood opportunities.
The Livelihood Training Program will continue over the next two days with additional sessions designed to further develop participants’ food production skills. On May 7, the program will feature Confectionery Production for Business from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM, focusing on creating confectionery products that can be marketed as small business items. The final session on May 8 will cover Pastry and Cake Making from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, where participants will learn basic pastry preparation and cake production techniques.
